roxzart: creating unique handmade pieces from lapidary rough to finished jewelry

I’ve always drawn/ sketched, painted, or created…finding inspiration everywhere I’ve lived: Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, San Francisco, Saudi Arabia, Oregon, and now Arizona where I rise early just to catch sunrise. I’m an avid scuba diver and especially love Bonaire, a beautiful marine preserve off the coast of Venezuela.

 

I majored in nursing and minored in art at the U of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. While practicing nursing, I did medical illustration for hospitals and for other nurses’ graduate theses. When I became a Legal Nurse Consultant, I often drew diagrams for my attorney clients. Then, when I retired from the medical world, I returned to my first love: art & jewelry! 

 

I constantly carry a sketch pad! I’ll get up in the middle of the night to sketch out an idea while it’s fresh in my mind.

 

In my kiln, I work with dichroic glass, PMC [Precious Metal Clay]. I cut, shape, + polish all of the semi-precious stones + minerals that I use in my pendant + earring sets.  My latest love is creating pendants + earrings from Kingman AZ Colbaugh’s turquoise products; turquoise is the AZ state gemstone!
